    Hello,

I am new to modx, and have just completed an installation.

When I go system --> package management --> packages, I cannot get any response when I click either of
the buttons named ’add new package’ and ’download extras’. While using mozilla firefox, I get nothing at all .. then I switched to internet explorer, and the browser does display an error message as follows:

    Webpage error details

User Agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 8.0; Windows NT 5.1; Trident/4.0; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; InfoPath.2; .NET CLR 3.0.4506.2152; .NET CLR 3.5.30729)

I have RTFM, and doublechecked that the packages directory is writable, and that php_curl and php_sockets are both enabled. Am I missing anything or is this a bug?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions/comments ..

Million thx for the reply ..

However, I don’t believe this is the problem I am having because it did initially prevent me from installing modx, then I RTFM and installed PHP 5.3.1 .. which set mysql-client to 505-dev ..

The installation completed and I can work on sites ... I am just unable to do package management at all.

Any other suggestions on what I should check ?

Are there any errors in your core/cache/logs/error.log?

                1. Try emptying your browser cache.
                2. Does this happen on other browsers besides Chrome?
                3. What’s your modxcms.com provider URL set to?
                4. Are there *any* other things about your environment we should know?

I first tried with firefox, and there are no responses to clicking any of the package management buttons.

I then tried with internet explorer, and this time there is also no response to clicking the buttons, but there is an error icon showing up on the status bar .. the errormessage I pasted above came from double-clicking this IE error icon.

After reading your post, and being as I have chrome installed, I have just tried it for the first time and it would not even logon successfully .. It throws up the following errors:

                  > Warning: PDO::__construct() [pdo.--construct]: MySQL server has gone away in C:\wamp\www\modx\core\xpdo\xpdo.class.php on line 315

                  > Warning: PDO::__construct() [pdo.--construct]: [2002] A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not (trying to connect via tcp://localhost:3306) in C:\wamp\www\modx\core\xpdo\xpdo.class.php on line 315
                  >
                  > Fatal error: Maximum execution time of 60 seconds exceeded in C:\wamp\www\modx\core\xpdo\xpdo.class.php on line 315

The error log file reflects this error encountered by chrome .. but after several reloads, chrome has succeeded in loading the admin manager site .. but still would not do package managenment .. just exactly like firefox .. So, it seems the chrome error was indeed a temporary issue with mysql server.

Now, the response in chrome seems to be an entirely different issue from the original problem I have reported .. because even as chrome was unable to connect, IE was still happily working with no errors but would still not do package management ...

The provider url is set to: http://rest.modxcms.com/extras/

I must say that looking again at the error log file, the errors there are all from the initial setup, and the failures in package management are not throwing up errors into that file ..

Thanks a million for helping .. much appreciated ..
There is nothing else special about this installation that needs to be reported.

Sounds like your WAMP install is misconfigured, as PHP and MySQL seem to be dying. Make sure you aren’t using xCache or eAccelerator in WAMP.
