    Have you thoroughly cleared your browser cache? Sometimes they are stubborn about hanging on to javascript files.

      I did- to no avail unfortunately.

      I compared with another modX site I have which has the button in place. This version uses the Content Editor theme- but I’ve noticed that in my TinyMCE configuration on the site with the problem, there isn’t a Content Editor theme- just Custom, ModX, Simple, Advanced, Creative, XHTML.

        All of my sites are using the MODx theme, with no problems. You might want to check the individual user’s settings, as these will override the global settings, if used.

          Thanks Lucy. Only problem is when I choose Custom theme, even though the first two rows are filled with the various buttons by default in the config screen, when I look at a page resource the theme looks just like no editor- i.e you can see the HTML markup. Any ideas?

            At the moment it’s set to "Use the global setting"... so presumably it should pick up "Custom" if I set TinyMCE to a custom theme in the config?

            I changed ti to Custom to see what would happen, and now when I look at a resource even tough it says it’s using TinyMCE it just looks like plain text i.e no editor...

              That’s the problem though, at the moment I can’t have the editor just looking like it’s plain text and showing the code, I might as well not use the editor at all! Just wondering what the problem with the Custom theme is and why it’s just showing the code and no buttons at all.

                Hi, yes I tried the Advanced one and all this gave me was the "frame" for TinyMCE but without any buttons!

                For some reason all the themes now seem to not work- no matter what I set them to, the resource displays the code version rather than the editor.

                Also tried modifying the theme through Elements -> Plugins -> Configuration (although the list of themes appears to be different here) but that didn’t work either. Looks as if it’s just not working at all now...

                I also tried going into Security -> Manager Users and modifying the user’s TinyMCE settings (which were set to "Use the global configuration") but when I tried putting in Custom, and then entering the Custom Plugins, and the buttons for the rows, then logging in as the user, TinyMCE was just showing the code- no editor interface at all!

                  The problem is in the file assets/plugins/tinymce/tinymce.functions.php. This file sets some of the configuration for TinyMCE, including the plugins and buttons for the various types.

                  For example
                          case 'editor':
                              $plugins  = 'autosave,save,advlist,clearfloat,style,fullscreen,advimage,paste,advlink,media,contextmenu,table';
                              $buttons1 = 'undo,redo,|,bold,forecolor,backcolor,strikethrough,formatselect,fontsizeselect,pastetext,pasteword,code,|,fullscreen,help';
                              $buttons2 = 'image,media,link,unlink,anchor,|,justifyleft,justifycenter,justifyright,clearfloat,|,bullist,numlist,|,blockquote,outdent,indent,|,table,hr,|,styleprops,removeformat';
                              $buttons3 = '';
                              $buttons4 = '';
                              break;

                  As you can see, no italic button. The first several cases don’t have it, while the last three do.
