I like the javascript syntax checking in Netbeans. if your working on a 3PC say and putting together js files using modext or just straight Extjs its a real boon having your file syntax checked as you type, like it does with PHP. The correct nesting of brackets in these files is hard to detect without something like this and I think this is the only IDE I’ve used that does this for both PHP and js.
Use MODx, or the cat gets it!

FWIW, I have now completely switched to JetBrains PhpStorm IDE ...
Are you using the PhpStorm Git interface at all?
Using PHPStorm as well, great IDE with helpful and easy to use interface and lot of features.
Since it’s from IntelliJ it will probably blast itself to the top of PHP IDE’s in no time(if not already) since it’s a sibling of their IDEA IDE framework.
Does anybody knows how to turn off
"scanning projects" on Netbeans 6.9? It goes for ever

How many projects do you have open? You can close all but one. I guess that would be slow if it’s a remote project -- I’m always working locally. It does take a lifetime to load, though.
You can also use File -> Project Properies to set directories to ignore. If you’re not actually searching the MODx code, you could ignore /core, /setup, /connectors, /manager, and /_build. That ought to speed things up a lot.
There’s a module called ’scan on demand’ it does this :-
With this module you can get more control over the scanning your IDE performs to keep internal information about your sources up to date. This module disables automatic scanning on start and after the main window gets focus. Instead you need to do it manually by invokig "refresh" action from various menus. Alternatively you can also create a configuration file and prevent changes in these files to trigger rescan.
I use this with Netbeans 6.8, I’ll check my 6.9 installs but I’m sure either you can still use this or its been addressed in the core, need to check

Cool. I didn’t find it in 6.9, but that doesn’t mean it’s not there.
