I’ve been working with typo3 a lot of time, and despite it is very powerfull, its really hard to learn or to do new implementations.
In MODx you have all the powerfulness of typo3, and the simplicity of... MODx smiley

great to hear that... maybe i should consider looking more deeply in MODx. wink

one thing of irritation for me was the fact, that there are actually two versions of MODx. so i’m asking myself, once revolution has got final (when?), will evolution then be still supported? will that remain as a kind of second class MODx? will addons be compatible?

      sorry for getting off topic.

        Michael..

Please don’t be; we are just spoilt for choice wink On a serious note, there are some very solid arguments for the two versions. Read this on the MODx blog.

You can follow the progress on Fisheye and read the road map for Revo in MODx blog...on the other hand, "when" is also affected by how many people are actually testing the product and reporting bugs, submitting patches, helping out with the docs, etc....It is somewhat overwhelming if all these are left to the limited number of Devs...

will evolution then be still supported?
Again this has been asked and answered before. The answer is a resounding Yes. Evo will be supported for a long time....

will that remain as a kind of second class MODx?
IMO, there is no second or first class, at least with respect to the "affection" they both get. Both systems have dedicated core devs. As for capability (also subject to one’s own definition), Revo is a superior system. Having said that, Evo is by no means inferior! (disclaimer: purely my opinion)

        will addons be compatible?
        Quick answer not always.
Long answer: They need to be ported to use the new Revo code. For some, the work is easier than others. There’s already ports of some of the addons. There’s also new addons exclusively built for Revo. Some are in the works too, like a native MODx forum...More developers are also needed to carry out this work. Revo will not include addons by default. These will be treated as Third party components (3PCs) and it is hoped will they be contributed by the community (at least that is how I understood it).

        cheers/k

Evolution isn’t going away any time soon. I’d say it’ll be around and actively supported and developed for the next 10 years or so...

what i can definitely say is, that the MODx community is outstandingly communicative and friendly. thank you for that.
there’s a certain climate of tolerance and positiv thinking, a kind of lightness as well as seriousness which attracts me a lot.
