Please do not mess ManagerManager... it is a great addon....
After this updated it will become easier to use since each section will have a uique ID allowing you to isolate it easily. And a lot of what you would do with MM you could do with a simply stylesheet. It will be a great upgrade in the long run  grin

How about setting up a 096x workgroup? I am interested for sure.

I still sort of maintain one old MODx 0.9.2.1 installation and another pre-MODx Etomite installation, which allows me to be reminded of what the devs started with. Man is it a whole lot better than those! That’s not to say that the OPs points are not valid (because I think they are), just to make sure that credit is given where due also.

Personally I am planning to jump ship to Revo as soon as that seems stable enough for production environments (I still haven’t even tested it, however). But it would be nice if Evo didn’t become stagnant right away, since a lot of people will probably continue to use it. Adding unique IDs to every field and element certainly seems like a worthwhile task.

I’ve used bluetooth headsets and they work great. Anything beyond a basic cleanup of the markup has to be seriously considered to stay in line with the considerations going forward for Evo->Revo migrations. (And as Shane pointed out, this would actually be a huge boon for ManagerManager.)

I’m still on it and expect it to be finished by sunday night (CET).

By now, most tables have been sent to retirement, and we have an abundance of formfields, legends, labels and definition lists (I thought about <ul> before, but decided later against them). All of them with nice id and class attributes derived from their fieldnames. I’m also setting up a basic stylesheet, but would really appreciate if somebody later would come up with something more colourful.

If anybody wants to lend a helping hand, please give some advice/input to the following problems:

          tmplvars:

Have you ever noticed that function renderFormElement() returns some really nasty id and name attributes?

          Example:

          <textarea id="tvmy%5Fwonderful%5Ftv" name="tvppb%5Fvideo%5Flink" ...></textarea>

I would rather have something like id="tv_my_wonderful_tv".

          Of course

          str_replace(" ","_",urldecode($row['name']))*
          Source: tmplvars.inc.php

*Just a quickfix for names including a blank. But what about other special characters?

will do the trick, but I don’t know enough about tmplvar’s ways to decide whether it is a good idea to mess arround with that part of the code.

Also, this would mean to start a new excavation site and I just don’t feel ready right now to do that.

To reduce the time we spend on the phone revealing to our customers the inner secrets and mysteries of a form field like "title", it is advisable to include help texts in a form. Something I noticed, is that in the upper part help is given by clicking on neat question mark icons. This is not true for TVs. Here "help" texts can be found below the field labels. If you need more than a few words to describe a form field, this can become quite ugly. Therefore I think that it would be a good idea to have those question marks down there as well.

Even better would be to have both. A brief caption text and a longer description in a popup box. Although this would mean to give tmplvars AS WELL AS the core responsible for the other variables some modofications, I think it would be worth it. Any volunteers?

Right now I would appreciate if somebody would come up with a few lines of code to move the caption text into one of those popups (just to keep you busy until I have finished my homeworks...)

          Regards,

Apart from the fact that there are still some few minor things to do, I have decided to present my humble effords to the community. It’s just a start, but it is a start. I have nearly finished reworking mutate:content.dynamic.php. This is the part that is responsible for creating and editing documents (the big frame on the right side). I have also added some minor changes to tmplvars.inc.php and wrote some additions to the modXgreen stylesheet, style.css.

You will find a handy list with all id and class attributes at the end of the stylesheet. Just uncomment the entry of a particular field and it will disappear.

The stylesheet itself is only basic stuff, nothing spectacular. The former tabs for "General", "Page Settings", "META Keywords" and "Preview" have disappeared (for now). It will only take some css wizardry and javascript to put them back into their place. Right now the only amazing thing that will happen is the fact that some form fields will float against each other on higher screen resolutions. with some efford, this could be developed further.

Anyone interested can write me a PM. I’ll send the files as soon as possible.

            Greetings,

            pepebe

            Edit:

P.S. Just in case somebody doesn’t know. DONT USE THIS ONE IN A PRODUCTIVE ENVIRONMENT until at least a dozen people say it’s cool to do so. It SEEMS to work nothing less, nothing more.

P.P.S. Is it possible to restrict different user groups to different templates?

pepebe: Thanks for the contribution. You could zip up the files and attach the .zip file to to a message here so people would have easier access to them. smiley

@BobRay: Thanks for the idea, didn’t notice that this was possible here, but now I have found it.

Attached to this post you will find the first results of my backend cleanup.

                Have fun!

I just setup a new googlecode project: http://code.google.com/p/ppb-modx-backend-reloaded/

In the future you will find there the latest zip packages. As far as I can see, there are a lot more things we can do with googlecode, but I have never tried it before so you have to be patient with me. If there is a seasoned googlecoder among you, I’m open to suggstions.I

I have also reorganized the zip package just copy it to your modx directory and everything will be fine.

                    pepebe,

The reason for the request to create the JIRA account was to have this in our subversion reporitory for the project in a format that can go through our code review process and hopefully eventually be incorporated into the code base itself. Would that be possible?

This would be no problem at all, apart from the fact that a thought they don’t offer a free account (only for 30days).

We are talking about this: http://www.atlassian.com/software/jira/, right?

Well, I managed to create an account but don’t now how to procede now. Should I order the 30 day "Try out" (http://www.atlassian.com/software/jira/JIRADownloadCenter.jspa)?

                      Any advice is appreciated!

P.S. I have made some additional changes regarding the overal organization of form fields. Attached is a screenshot. Have a look.
