    Okay, I can back-up the database files. But in regardless to the regular files, how do I back them up, especially these files: MODx files are the index.php, index-ajax.php, .htaccess files and the assets and manager folders (with all of their files inside).

    So I do need to back-up my regular files and my database files? If so, how do I back-up both?

      I either simply download them to a folder on my machine, or use the domain control panel (CPanel, maybe?) to compress the selected files and folders, then download that.

        Okay, I backed-up all of the files that you mentioned and the database tables.

        But when I searched for /assets/templates/default under the ModxHOST template, I didn’t find that phrase anywhere in the document.

        Should I copy and paste the components of this file in a private message to you?

        The reason I wanted to create the /mydefault folder was because I had somebody make some changes to the look of my website. These changes include:

        1. Removed "Search" box on top right
        2. Put "Hope Again Ministries" on top left
        3. Removed shaded sections on right and left side
        4. Extended text margins to extend to full size of screen once shading was removed
        5. Changed background color to white.

        If he just changed individual elements of the website that won’t affect the template look of the website when I upgrade to a new version of Modx, then I’m safe to upgrade now without creating a /mydefault folder, right?

          The MODxHost template doesn’t use the default folder, it uses the modxhost folder. To see what files your template is using, look in the template head for a line like this:
          <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="assets/templates/modxhost/modx.css" />

          The actual name of the .css file may vary, but the location "assets/templates/whatever" will tell you which folder your template is looking in for its files.

              Is anyone still monitoring this thread? I need some help with the above issue and haven’t heard back from anyone in about 3 days.

                Every HTML page has a head and a body section. MODx templates are just HTML pages with the changing parts for the content of each page replaced by MODx tags (such as the [*content*] tag). Your template looks something like this:
                <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
                <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">
                <head>
                <title>My MODx Site</title>
                <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="assets/templates/MyTemplate/style.css" media="all" />
                ...
                </head>
                <body>
                ...
                [*content*]
                ...
                </body>

                The head part inside the <head> ... </head> tags doesn’t get displayed, it tells the browser how to display the page and what supporting files (css, js, etc) are needed to fully process the HTML of the page; what’s in the body section is what gets displayed.

                What you are looking for is the stylesheet link; it will tell you where the CSS file the template is using is stored.

                  So I clicked on my homepage and searched for assets/templates, and I found the following items:

                  <link rel="stylesheet" href="assets/templates/modxhost/layout.css" type="text/css" media="screen" />
                  <link rel="stylesheet" href="assets/templates/modxhost/modxmenu.css" type="text/css" media="screen" />
                  <link rel="stylesheet" href="assets/templates/modxhost/form.css" type="text/css" media="screen" />
                  <link rel="stylesheet" href="assets/templates/modxhost/modx.css" type="text/css" media="screen" />
                  <link rel="stylesheet" href="assets/templates/modxhost/print.css" type="text/css" media="print" />
                  <link rel="alternate" type="application/rss+xml" title="RSS 2.0" href="http://www.hopeagainministries.com/[~11~]" />
                  <script src="manager/media/script/mootools/mootools.js" type="text/javascript"></script>.

                  Which of these is my stylesheet link that shows the css file that the template is using? And where exactly would I find this css file?

                  (I think I may finally be getting somewhere.)
