Okay, I am using a very old version of Modx and would like to upgrade to the new one, but I’m having severe issues.
First, I tried to follow the link for the Modx Backup Module, but I got an error every time. So I then tried downloading my database through Cyberduck to my computer, but I get the following error message:
FTP Error: Download failed
/stats/.statspwd
Can’t open .statspwd: Permission denied.
When I clicked for further details, I got this:
-rw----r-- 1 0 0 138779 Dec 21 16:19 logarchive.09_12.zip
213 End.
CWD /stats
250 OK. Current directory is /stats
TYPE I
200 TYPE is now 8-bit binary
PASV
227 Entering Passive Mode (208,109,181,70,50,207)
RETR .statspwd
550 Can’t open .statspwd: Permission denied
QUIT
221-Goodbye. You uploaded 0 and downloaded 0 kbytes.
221 Logout.
I have absolutely no idea what this means. Can anyone help in backing-up my site?
I’m running my site through Godaddy.com and have Modx loaded into a database. Do I need to download everything through Cyberduck to my computer, or do I need to download the entire database from Godaddy.com?
After backing-up, I need to duplicate the files in my assets/templates/default to another one called assets/templates/mydefault.

For one thing, you aren’t downloading your database. What you are doing is downloading the files. And the error you are getting is because you don’t have permission to access that particular file. That is a separate application, and is not part of MODx.
Thanks!
So in other words, is the /stats folder something used by godaddy?
Do I just need to download everything else except for this folder?
And I don’t need to back-up the database? Only the files?
Also, could you please tell me how I can create a assets/templates/mydefault and move everything from my assets/templates/default folder into it?

MODx files are the index.php, index-ajax.php, .htaccess files and the assets and manager folders (with all of their files inside). You can back up the database using the backup tool in the MODx manager, Tools -> Backup. Or you can export the database using your control panel’s PHPMyAdmin. If your host is using CPanel, you can also use its file manager to select the files and folders you want to archive and zip them up into one file for download. Other control panels probably also have a similar feature.
Your FTP client can most likely let you simply copy or duplicate assets/templates/default to assets/templates/mydefault.
That’s great. I’ll do that.
I’m using cyberduck as an FTP client. When I highlight the assets/templates/default directory, it won’t let me duplicate the entire folder. I can go in and highlight each file within the folder separately and hit duplicate. It then creates a duplicate file but places it in the same folder. I’m not able to figure-out how to move it to the /mydefault folder.
Do you know of a free FTP client compatible with a Mac that can do this, or do you know of a better way?

Hm, I use Cyberduck myself. How about just download the folder, rename it locally, then upload it?
Before I use the Modx manager to back-up my site, could you tell me if I should back-up all of these files? This is the complete list of files. Please tell me if I need to uncheck any of these to prevent them from being downloaded for back-up.

Let me give you my website address so you can know what I’m talking about: www.hopeagainministries.com.
The forums section is run through vBulletin (using a weblink), but the rest of the site is completely run through Modx.
Once I upset my Modx and the main part of my site, I can then upgrade my vBulletin forums section.

Those are not files, they are database tables. You definitely want to back up the database.
