Can I download and unzip the original MODx download and FTP the Install folder from that???
Yes you can do this, what error do you get when trying to log in to the manager?
Use MODx, or the cat gets it!

      Hi Steve,

This is the error I was getting when logging into the /manager before.

BTW I have just noticed that all the folders once transferred across don’t have 777 permissions!!! They had 000 !!! >:(
I am applying 777 to folders and enclosed items.

Maybe this was the source of error before?

          http://svn.modxcms.com/docs/display/MODx096/Installation
When you have put the unzipped files and folders in your website, make sure that the /assets/cache (and its files), /assets/export and /assets/images folders are world-writeable (777). You also may need to create an empty file in the manager/includes directory named config.inc.php and make it world-writable. After the installation is completed, change the permissions on that file to read-only. If your installation is running PHP with suexec you do not want these world-writable permissions.
for evolution media / flash / files too

Yes, the above perms issue won’t help. The error you posted was an invalid resource error, ie you are not correctly opening a MODx database connection.
Use MODx, or the cat gets it!

If its the same error, you still don’t have a valid mysql database connection, check your db parameters, remember the hostname(server) might not be ’localhost’ on your production server.

Yes localhost was changed to: internal-db.s37751.gridserver.com

I have also downloaded the MODx zip and unzipped in a different directory on another domain to try and install a blank test site. This wont work either due to (MySQL permissions)
I think the problems I have been having need to be taken up with Media Temple.

There’s been probs with Media Temple before, here’s an example http://modxcms.com/forums/index.php?topic=25366.0, if you search the forums for ’media temple’ there are more.

Thanks shamblett this is my first site in MODx so trying to pinpoint the problem has taken a while, Im pretty sure (mt) are the culprit. It all seems to be with database connections and SQL even though the login and host etc settings are spot on.
