    Hi,

probably best to reinstall, write down the dbusername password and dbname, you fill them out during install. Make sure all the directorys you uploaded have the correct chmod permissions. rename the config.inc.php.blank file to config.inc.php (just right click in FTP/rename and delete .blank) and set permissions to 777 666, really no need to edit thar file when installing.
    best, fr.

PS, from the setup txt of modx 9.6, with the Evo there are a few morde directorys that need to have their permissions set to 777 (wrong here 666 is fine).

    3) In manager/includes/ there is a "config.inc.php.blank" file. If you wish, you can simply rename this by removing the ".blank" extension. This will be used as your config file. Alternately, you may choose to just create a blank file named "config.inc.php" in manager/includes/. Change the permissions on this file to 666 (read/write). The permissions mentioned here and later apply to most installs. PHP running as suexec may require different permissions (644 and 755)

    4) Change the following directory permissions to 777 (read/write/execute):
    assets/cache/
    assets/export/
    assets/images/

    5) Change the following files to 666 (read/write):
    assets/cache/siteCache.idx.php
    assets/cache/sitePublishing.idx.php

      "

Everything was fine on this page.

      The final page said

      "Writing configuration file: FAILED!
" and as previously mentioned it asked me to copy and paste in a config.inc.php file

and similar to the user on a mac which I posted a link earlier in this thread the only option is to close the page

"Once that's been done, you can log into MODx Admin by pointing your browser at YourSiteName.com/manager/."

However nothing changes as my homepage still says "Could not load DBAPI class."

and my manager page says "Could not load DBAPI class."

      Can anyone help?

why would I change the config.inc.php file to 777?
So that MODx installer will write the config for you saving you the trouble. Then you remove the permissions after finished with the installation. I prefer to let MODx do it for me but either way should work wink

A php fine needs to have the opening <?php tag to tell the parser that the code is to be parsed as well as have .php extension. Try adding the php tags around yur config file:

        <?php
        ... config data here
        ?>

I think you are better of downloading MODX again.
Wiping your www (or whatever dir) in FTP.
Upload modx again, set all the FTP permissions correct.
            And open www.youresite.com/install
If tha does not work, I could check for you, if you want.
You would need to PM your login details and I could try to check things for you.ùùAnyway its up to you,

            best fr.

LOL...my guess is it will go all right, my first install was troublesome, untill I was advised what I advised you. Maybe the transfer over FTP went wrong, never know.

                    frank.
