Hi, I have just transferred all the files from MODX evolution to my server via filezilla. When I go to my website (development-theory.org) however it displays this message

"MODx is not currently installed or the configuration file cannot be found. Do you want to install now?"

I click on install now, on the next screen I choose my language, then I can only opt to install a new copy of modx

on the next screen I’m asked for

    Database host:

    Database login name:

    Database password:

When I enter these details I then have to " Test database server connection and view collations."

However when I test these details it modx tell me that "Connection to host: failed!"

    Did my filezilla upload correctly?

    Is there something I’m missing?

I understand that modx is a free cms I really like its features but I can’t seem to get it uploaded. If mod x support can’t help, is there anywhere I can go for someone to help me one on one for this ?

If noone is willing to help, can anyone recommend a good cms (which may cost money) with adequate support to help me upload the system to my host??

    Thanks,

    F.

Have you actually created your database ??

If so then check the details you have given as the error means it cannot connect to the database, therefore connection fails

        Secondary hint:
If your DB server runs on the same machine as the webserver type "localhost" for the hostname cause many shared hosting providers restrict access to that...

          Hi

Did you manage? There are loads of commercial CMS s around, but they cost big bucks.
You could PM your details to someone of modx and we could set that up. Because it sounds as if you did not set up your database. Which is easy enough through PHP admin. Just check the FAQ from your provider,

Hey guys almost there!! the last issue I think is due to my config.inc.php file. The following happens on my last page (sorry for the long post but it is mostly code)

            "Install results

            Writing configuration file: FAILED!

MODx couldn’t write the config file. Please copy the following into the file manager/includes/config.inc.php

Here is a copy of the text to be copied

I put this into a notepad file and upload it to manager-includes in filezilla and set it to 666. However nothing changes on my website. I am not sure if I need to add more to the notepad file to make it a php.

I found someone else with the same problem

however he uses a mac and I use a Hewlett Packard but my host is on linux.

I really appreciate your help on this,

              Hi Festivalpig,

rather not display your server related config details in a forum - for security reasons you could XXXXX the user/password/server part

nice nickname btw, love it wink

you actually need to save it as a .php-file you can do that using Notepad++ for example: http://notepad-plus.sourceforge.net/uk/site.htm or copy another php-file, rename it and copy & paste your code

thanks sharkbait, the name is a referrence to my website

when you say php-file do you mean include the word "file" in the title?

I have already tried uploading the file as .php and php-file but neither work

When I go to the link you posted it tells me that C supports php but I’m not sure what that means

is there basic code to include in a php file such as <body></body> in html which makes it a php file?

try the attached file - unzip and fill in your server details

On Windows, if file extensions can be hidden, you may not SEE that you have accidently saved a file as ’Text Documents’ (and that the browser has added ’.txt’ to the end of your ’page.php’, resulting in ’page.php.txt’.) You still see only ’page.php’ even though it’s really ’page.php.txt’. Also, if you try to rename it, it won’t work because it’s not overwriting the ’.txt’ part and not changing the filetype.

thanks for that I just did it, put in my details, selected 666 and the file was accepted but the frontpage of my website still asks me to install modx and the development-theory.org/manager page says "Could not load DBAPI class."

If it’s successful shouldn’t my webpage frontpage/manager page change?
