For the benefit of the forum guys, I logged into the server and tried to make this happen... here’s what I saw:
I saw that the account on the host was used to host multiple domains, and modx was being installed in a sub-directory of a WordPress install... so there was a possibility of foul-play with WordPress’s or the hosts redirection logic... hitting the install page just let loose a bunch of session related errors.
So I tried installing to a SUB-domain, to isolate the problem.... but it had the same results.
It looked like the host (Fat Cow) was throttling the FTP connection somehow... I was seeing a lot of weird stuff in my FTP logs, e.g.:
PASV
227 Entering Passive Mode (65,254,254,34,144,2)
STOR index.html
150 Opening BINARY mode data connection for index.html
CWD /newmodx/assets/cache/rss
So my uploads would fail repeatedly... I think it’s easily possible that files got skipped or maybe only PARTS of files got uploaded. I’ve seen
this happen on a couple hosts... sometimes switching the FTP client alleviates the problem, but again, no dice. They don’t offer SSH access, so I couldn’t download/unzip/install from the command-line.
I’ve installed MODx on probably 20 different server combos, but I’ve never seen anything like this.
