    Hi everyone,

I’ve spent the past three days reading review after review and everyone kept mentioning modx. I’m experienced in Wordpress but I am trying to get my feet wet in other CMS. However I’m not much of a developer and needed something that was easier to learn.

I was really excited about installing modx but I have been having issues everytime.

When I uploaded all the files i was able to get to the setup menu. At first I had trouble connecting to database. I resolved that issue. Then tech support for my hosting mentioned they reset something or whatever and now this error comes up and my hosting company says they dont provide support for a "pdo_mysql driver".

If you go to tupieta.com/modx/setup it says:

FATAL ERROR: MODx Setup cannot continue.

MODx requires the pdo_mysql driver when native PDO is being used and it does not appear to be loaded.

I realllyyyy want to go with modx but I’m so tired of all the issues I have had with getting to run. Could someone please help me before I decide to go somewhere else (and go through all this hoopla again.)

    Thank you! grin

Which version of MODx are you trying to install, Evolution or Revolution?

We don’t recommend using Revolution without PDO drivers and Evolution (http://modxcms.com/download/download.html?file=327) is probably a better choice for you anyway if you are new to MODx.

Your host is seriously deficient since PDO drivers are required for several modern CMS platforms (e.g. Drupal 7).

If you’re anxious to start playing with MODx, you might consider installing XAMPP on your local machine and then doing your MODx install locally.

I’d second Bob’s suggestion: install Evolution (MODx 0.9.6.3 or 1.0.0). It’s WAY easier to install and WAY easier to navigate. The requirements for using version 2.0 are much more complicated. It’s really ballsy to try to install a beta version as your first introduction to a piece of software.

          Thank you for your help!

I know drupal is offered by my hosting company but not sure which version it is.

I will try installing Evolution instead smiley

Good move, imho. Bob’s got great guides on his site, and I’ve put together a couple videos, including one installing:

              Okay

I went through and installed the old version. However I am still having issues. I keep seeing errors on the install screen. The first time i thought nothing of it and just went forward with installing it. It went okay but then I couldnt log-in. So I removed it and uploaded the files again. i am still seing those error messages. *I uploaded a screenshot of what I see*

I got in contact with Tech Support and they sent me this:

              Hello Courtney,

I have tested by accessing the URL: http://tupieta.com/modx/install/ . I could see the error ‘Warning: session_start() [function.session-start]: open(D:\hshome\drustvoe\podarim-dobim.net\manager\sessions/sess_68521dd69224d11645b408b28dc26773, O_RDWR) failed: No such file or directory (2) in /hermes/web06/b1526/moo.tupieta/portfolio/modx/install/index.php’ . The issue is with the script in ‘index.php’ at line 12. There is issue with the session. I have checked the session path in the php.ini file and it is fine. Hence, I suggest you to contact your Web developer or application vendor to resolve the issue further.

If you have any further questions, please update the Support Console.

              Sincerely,

It looks like you’ve not uploaded the entire archive (or it’s partially corrupt) or that you’ve got a non-standard session configuration.

Like Ryan said, you should download the package again. Don’t ignore errors -- tell us what you’re seeing. The details are important!

Where are you trying to install this? It’s a lot more difficult to get this up and running on your local desktop -- it is possible, but I wouldn’t recommend trying to do this as your FIRST install and your FIRST introduction to MODx.

You can get an account with Bluehost.com for example, and it has a helper wizard to install MODx automatically. If you’re not a sysadmin, then you shouldn’t try to struggle through some of the technical problems like this... you’ll probably just get frustrated.

My hosting account is with Fatcow. sad

I’ve thought about switching hosts but I’ve already paid for a year of service. I just uploaded through my FTP program like the instructions said.

The only other CMS options I have with my hosting company is Joomla, Drupal, Mambo, and E107
