Another thing you should do is turn off .htaccess rules they may be causing extra problems on the new server at the moment.
To edit your site if you cannot log into the manager, use PHPMYadmin
And the main table you need to look at is: modx_system_settings
To turn off friendly URls set
friendly_urls = 0
And to fix your paths the following:
rb_base_dir
filemanager_path
I have made the appropriate changes. the server they are hosting on is not one that I have access to the php.ini, so in the root I did create a directory var and inside of it I created a directory php_sessions but I still receive the parcing error. Also I went through the phpmyadmin and I made sure the friendly urls were 0 and I changed the 2 values you mentioned to /public_html/new instead of the windows version that was in their. I still can not login at all and the parcing error persists. I am trying to get this into production so I need some help rather quickly.

Hi,
First thing I would recommend is contact the web host and find out how you can change Session save path and if it is valid for your site.
The problem of logging into the MODx manager, if you log into phpmyadmin and go to the table: modx_manager_users
then edit the user account you created and set a new password, when you type in your new password make sure you set the function type as MD5 which will encrypt the password to MODx standards.
I am not the owner of the policy for the server so I can not really call them and talk, I have tried. Also I just changed the password and did md5, when I type in the username and password all that happens is the page refreshes. It will not send me through to the manager...

Your provider should be able to provide you with instructions on how to create a custom sessions save path for your specific site.
Normally you can just create your own php.ini in htdocs and set
session.save_path = /tmp
Replace the /tmp with the path that you want to use as the session saved path. so for you it would be
/home/users/web/b1791/ipw.cristcom/tmp/
You will also need to create the tmp folder and apply the correct permissions read / write.
I think once we fix your sessions save path then the rest should work.

Basically you need to ask your tech guys for where is best to write your sites php sessions to,
/home/users/web/b1791/ipw.cristcom/tmp is a location you could use.
Looking at your site that error has now gone, so I assume you or your tech guys have fixed it.
All being well you should be able to log into the manager now.
I have to attend a meeting now, do let me know how you get on.
Thanks Aaron
Technical support to the rescue, they fixed it and the error is gone and I can login. Great stuff!
