Hmm... wonder if it was the same one? Several universities were using it, including the University of Miami; that caught my attention because I worked there when I lived in Miami.
The company was based in Canada. I can’t remember the name of the product.
If i had that much money i am sure you could find a developer who could build a CMS that meets our needs and excels them by 100%

Sadly, that’s not the way it works most of the time. You need a sales team, a slick demo, and a glossy brochure at a minimum.
I’ve been turned down for a number of projects where the product they went for was a well-marketed complete and utter piece of crap, even when I had a robust working app to offer. I truly suck at marketing.

Hmm... that sounds familiar (cough...microsoft...cough)
I know that this thread has gotten off topic, but I have to say that MODx needs some of those slick brochures (or a video or great demo site targeted to non-technical end users), or something like that to make it easier to sell to people who have made up their mind about the CMS they want before talking to a developer.

LOL. Actually, MS’s stuff is pure gold compared to the things I’m talking about. Some didn’t work at all and others crashed all the time. One trivial but commonly used task that my App took about 3 seconds to complete took over 30 *minutes* in the App they went for.
Its so true with regards the slick presentation. I have looked at so much cms sales copy over the last couple of weeks it all litered with the same jaron that make the MD’s happy. I have translated what a couple really mean :
Capital Expenditure - Your going to over pay for features you dont really need and the software is going to be overly complicated and clunky.
Operational Expenditure - Its free but its going to break all the time and half the features you want are not available out of the box so your going to have to pay us to add them.
Yes - I am a big cynic.

We’re getting way off topic here, but at least there are Apps now. I remember the mainframe days when I asked for a really simple report on data in the DB and was told that it would take six months to write the code and over a million dollars to produce. When we asked to download the data so we could analyze it ourselves, we were told that it would take over 24 hours to download and all our terminals would be down during the process. All said with a completely straight face.
