    Hello All,

I have been CMS searching all day and i have to say i really love MODX has to offer. However i was wondering if it can be used to manage multiple sites from one admin pannel. Say i have domaina.com and domainb.com is it possible that i can manage the content of both from modx ?

I would love there to be as modx just looks perfect for me otherwise smiley

    Thanks in Advance Alex

This can be done with Revolution by default or with modification Evolution/(0.9.6.x). It’s mainly a question of which version you want to use.

It’s done with contexts in Revolution, right? I don’t think that completely qualifies as managing multiple sites. Say, for example, I have a client’s site with their own hosting account, and I have another client with their own account. The MODx installations will be be completely separate. You can’t use contexts in a case like that, can you?
I'm learning more about MODx all the time and loving it.

There would need to be some form of link between the installs. As I understand it independent sites can’t be managed in the method your thinking. I know it’s been high on my wish list! If it’s doable I would love to know it can be a pain managing several sites each with their own install/manager...

There’s a long discussion on having multiple sites here: http://modxcms.com/forums/index.php/topic,31725.msg192520.html

              Hi All,

              Thanks for all the replies.

First of all my search’s might of proved fruitless as i had spelt Multiple wrong as you can see from the title post. Sunday was not my day ! I have taken a look at the link bob sent and it seems possible which is great news. Being totally new to MODX i will have a read round before asking any more questions.

My search for a decent Mulitsite cms so far has been somewhat fruitless it seems to always end in a website scattered with the words ’enterprise’ accompanied by dollops of jargon and a ’call for pricing’ button. I even found one that was $95,000 ! I am soo glad to have potentially found a solution to my CMS need’s. Modx seems to have a great community. I will most likely pop my head up in the commercial section soon.

              Thanks Again Alex

Don’t feel bad, one high-tech startup I worked for paid half a million dollars for some hot-shot CMS or another (I forget now, although I met their top salesman at a tech show; he was in Israel because they’d called him in from the Netherlands to close the half-million dollar deal), but after fighting with it for two years, even with a couple of the application’s developers on-site, they had to give it up, get rid of the Windows/IIS servers, and go with a custon-built perl/mason on RedHat linux system. They got Reuven Lerner in as a consultant (in my opinion that was the first thing they did right!). Last I heard, they were suing the CMS company for the half-million dollars. Don’t know if they got it back or not. They are now known as shopping.com.

                  Good story !

How does anyone pay even $95,000 for a CMS its truely amazing. Does it come round and make coffee and cakes ?

I worked for a state college system that paid a staggering amount for an educational CMS based on a quick demo and the features listed in their brochure. At no point did the system ask the opinion of anyone with a background in web programming.

The thing was implemented in .ASP and didn’t scale worth a damn. The whole thing crashed whenever more than about 20 users were on at the same time. A whole bunch more money went down the drain on high-priced database consultants who tried, in vain, to fix things by tuning the DB. wink

Hmm... wonder if it was the same one? Several universities were using it, including the University of Miami; that caught my attention because I worked there when I lived in Miami.
