I still don’t know why the 404 page is not working. How do I fix this?

At the minimum you need a base-href declaration in your site template. Your CSS file is not linking up properly. Also show us a screenshot of the Tools > Configuration page around your site-start and unauthorized/not found section and your Site Tree.

I’m not sure what you mean by a base-href declaration. i’m not sure where to get the "around your site-start and unauthorized/not found section", but I think I got screen shots of everything else.

the base tag goes in your <head> section of the template, above the links for your css/JS
            <base href="[(site_url)]"></base>

I’m not familiar with this manger theme you using, what’s the Orange on the doc names?

If you have FURLs off, then you need to rename the ".htaccess" file inside your MODx installation to something else, like "ht.access". It appears that your server may in fact support it.

That was it! Now it displays the browser 404, which I am perfectly happy with. As long as it doesn’t show the index page of my main site.
                Thank you!

Looks like the old MODx default theme.
