    I don’t really know how to explain this, but I’ve got modx installed in a "modx" folder on my site. When I visit a bad page, I don’t get the default 404 error page. I get a combination of my site index page and my modx template with no style sheet. You can see the issue here: http://kittyinrose.com/modx/didfgvsdfgdfsgital.php

          What does your document #7 look like? What template does it use?

            The 404 page is the default that came with the install. I didn’t make any changes to it. It’s using the MODxHost template, but the page doesn’t change when I use different templates. Here’s what the page says in the back end:

            Looks like you tried to go somewhere that does not exist... perhaps you need to login or you’d like one of the following pages instead:

            [[Wayfinder? &startId=`0` &showDescription=`1`]]
            Want to find it the old fashioned way? Use the site search at the top of this site to find what you seek.

            With login name as @EVAL if ($modx->getLoginUserID()) return ’Logout’; else return ’Login’;

              changes the template of your error page to use same template you have on your modx home page and make sure it’s published.

                also check what’s going on with FURL; some links are index.php?id=49 and other contact.php

                  My hosting plan doesn’t support friendly url’s. I hope this doesn’t kill the 404 page, though I’m not sure why it would. I published the 404 page, set the 404 page to have the same template as the "index" modx page, and still have the same problem. Do I have to publish the template? If so, how do I do that? What else do I need to check?

                    I have a similar problem on localhost.

                    With FURLs on, I get my error page in FF 3.5 and Chrome. In IE7, I get the standard 404 page.

                    With FURLs off, I get the standard 404 page in all browsers.

                    (Actually, I think it’s Apache’s error page I’m getting.

                    This seems to happen in both Evo and Revo, but not in 0.9.6.

                      no need to publish the template if it’s the same public template you use in the site root.
                      but I think your host does support FURL:
