    Hello,

I would like to use modx for a larger website, so I would like to know more about performance limits of modx revolution.

If I had a high performing server how many visitors could visit the site simultaneously? How many pages can I set up? Am I only limited by hardware?

    Thank you in advance!

OpenGeek should chime in here but as far as my non programmer mind can understand, the limits of Revolution are tied to the limits of the server, database and configuration. It should handle various and custom caching mechs, obviously MySQL has limits of size but Revolution should be able to work with other DB systems later on.

So really the limits are not in the app. Unlike 9.6x and its predecessors which had document/resource limits of about 5000, Revolution should be able to run massive massive sites with only the server(s) to be at issue.

The issue with 096x is with the cache, which was a single, monolithic cache for the entire site. For Revo, it’s broken down into individual files per page per context.

          Thanks for your help!

That means with Modx Revolution only hardware has the biggest influence on performance? I would like to use modx for a website with up to 10.000 visitors a day and 30.000 - 50.000 page impression. Do you think threrefore it is ok?

All other things being optimized as they should be and with proper caching yes. But images, code and common files should be compressed and cached where possible.

Really that is not that many impressions. I had a client site running Coppermine Photo Gallery see nearly a million impressions in a day on a shared server (and not a new one) with no problem and that is far less optimized than modx 096 is. Images are intensive but php scripts run at the speed of the server and usually it is mysql or the page elements that affect performance. Images and bad code are usually the culprits.

So it is more than possible to do use modx for your site.

              Hi

I have installed two modx demo sites on the same hosting and spotted that modx evolution site is starting much more faster than revolution (both sites have the same content - blank page).

              Is that normal?
Are there any revolution settings which can speed up site loading/starting?

Hi, please consider to have JS/CSS compression active in system settings:

                compress_css
                compress_js
                concat_js

                set them to "on".
Furthermore you can speed up with caching methods in system settings and finally with gzip activated through the htaccess.
I now have a website moved from Evo to Revo and I get better results than before (but finally have improved HTML/CSS/jQuery-Code significantly)

                before (Evo): 1.98s load time
                after: (Revo): 1.36s loas time
and some more improvements like less requests (68->32) etc.

The most important thing on load time are the HTTP requests and good JS Loading e.g. via control.js

Please - check the date of the topic you’re posting on next time.. this one is almost 2,5yrs old.. and if your question hasn’t been answered yet (or you can’t find it) make a new topic. That will keep things organised a lil’ bit.

What do you mean with "starting"? Loading the page in the front-end or opening up the back-end manager?

The MODX Revolution backend is being built by ExtJS, a javascript framework for fancy UIs which takes little time to code (so the devs can instead work on other things, like core code), and so, because it is js intensive, it seems to take longer.

I can’t think of anything why the front-end seems to be slower for Revolution. This topic deals with it, aswell: http://modxcms.com/forums/index.php?topic=53419.0

By "starting" I mean loading front-end for the first time - after page is loaded, going through another pages on the website works fine.
I will check modx options and topic you point out, maybe it will help... Thanks
