Newbie here installing ModX for the first time.
I have created my database and database user, but the install gives me this message when I test for it:
Checking database: failed - could not create database
    Connection to host passed:
Connection to host: passed - collations now available
    MODx version 0.9.6.2
    Does anybody have any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Cway

What’s your server environment? I think I someone else around here had a similar problem. Anyway, it would be easier to diagnose if you gave info about your server environment.

Welcome to modx btw! it normally installs fine.....pliz don’t give up on it wink

It’s possible that the database name you gave MODx for the install isn’t correct. Hosts sometimes add a prefix to the name you give when you create a DB, so the name you gave it may not be its "real" name.

RedHat Enterprise 4 Linux operating system
          Apache web server
          Plesk control panel

Is it possible to skip the database installation part, because I’ve already created the database?

MODx needs to write to the database during the install. The error message suggest that MODx is trying to create the DB, which means it doesn’t see the one you created (hence my message above about the DB name).

My host says they do not modify the name. What I enter is the name.

I just deleted everything (files, database) and stated over and I seem to have it installed now.
                Thanks for your assistance.

Although, the installation instructions (How do I install and configure MODx?) say:
"After logging into the manager you should edit and save your System Configuration settings before browsing the site by choosing Administration -> System Configuration in the MODx Manager."

but I do not see anything called MODx Manager or Administration or System Configuration once logged-in.

Does anybody know where the System Configuration is?

                Thanks,
                cway

Click on Tools (in the menu in the backend once logged in) then choose configuration (the last item to the right in the sub-menu).

Glad you got it installed smiley cheers

Glad it worked for you. smiley

The MODx Manager is where you are when you’re logged in.

See the site in my sig. for more info.

                      Hi y’all smiley

Don’t want to hijack this topic wink but have exactly the same problem:
Connection to host: passed - collations now available
Checking database: failed - could not create database

Already tried re-copying everything to my webspace, didn’t help...
