Again I don’t know who your host is, but any 1/2 way decent hosting company should have at least 1 backup with the time period. If they don’t I would seriously consider finding a new hosting company that does have a working backup system as well problems happen and they should be able to help you.

At the very least I would suggest you setup/use this system to ensure you don’t have this problem again (or at least your more prepared) http://tips-scripts.com/sql_backups Don’t worry it might look hard to use, but it’s really very basic to setup as you just plug in a few items on top.

I am so warmed by all your responses... and yes, my host (hostmonster) after calling three times, and getting a decent tech to help me out, spent over an hour with me trying to update my site. The problem is this...

      1) in installed a test version of modx in one folder, and then moved it to another folder.. Later, after i was almost done with all the trials and tweaks.. i deleted the first folder, and the first installation from my simple scripts. That apparently got my current site very angry. We did a back up from October, but unfortunately, i did so much work on the site since then that it really didn’t matter much.

I have learned my lesson smiley

Thank you again... so very much for all your reply’s.

Almost all your work would have been in the MODx MySQL database.

I’m guessing that when you moved your site, you didn’t change the name of the database in config.inc.php. That means that both sites would have been using the same database and tables in the DB. If you deleted the one site just by deleting files, your data in the DB would have been fine, but if you did a Simple Scripts uninstall of the site, it probably deleted the site’s database which was also the *other* site’s database.

Your host *should* have had a backup of your DB, but as you now know, you should have one too. smiley

It’s still possible that some of your work is still in the DB. If it wasn’t deleted by the uninstall, it would be there even if you’ve since installed MODx again as long as you used a new name for the DB or did an upgrade install. Someone who knows MODx might be able to save some of it for you. I’d be glad to take a quick look. Send me a personal message here if you’re interested.

i deleted the first folder, and the first installation from my simple scripts.
I see, these hosting control panel installation managers, like simple scripts are very fickle and don’t like it if you mess with their configuration. As practical as they are I always recommend installing manually. Glad you figured this out grin
