Collections & getResources

Hi.


I’ve been using articles on my websites so far, I wanted to give a shot to Collections, but the documentation is poor ,


Is there a way to pull Collection subpages with getResources ?


I just want to list all posts on the parent blog page.

sure, a Collections - Collection are just normal resources.

So you can use getResources or pdoResources or any other snippet, which can list resources to show them.

By the way, do you know how to make Collections works like Articles ( the plugin ).

Ex:
- Wordpress like url for posts ( dd/mm/yyy/XXXXXXX )
- Author Page
- Tag page


I’m thinking about switching to Articles, but I’m struggling to find a complete documentation about Collection.

you can use Archivist for date - urls
For Tagging use the Tagger - Extra

What do you mean with Author - Page?

Sounds like he means a user profile page. You can use the Login extra for that.

I mean when you are reading a post, you can click on a tag, and you are redirected to a page ( which is created automatically by Articles ).
Same thing for the author page.

Just like wordpress.

I am not sure if Collections does it.

Yeah as Bruno suggested tagger will do that. Articles used tagger too, it was just installed with Articles. Collections is just a collection of resources so if you had some 2000 news resources, or recipes or something of that nature, then you dont have to expand the tree and sort through all the resources to find the one you're after.

Articles isn't maintained but still works, though it does have its limits and Collections is a good alternative.

I think articles didn't use Tagger. Didn't it just use a tag-TV?
But Tagger is way better, than using a TV for tagging.

Articles are just (special) Resources.
Collections are usual Resources, listed in a nice grid instead of the tree.

Articles does a lot automatically under the hood, which makes it much less flexible.

Everything what Articles does, can be done with Collections + some Extras, too.
But in a much more flexible way.
You choose by yourself, which Extras to use for different parts and you are free how you set them up.

I have installed Collections with Mamp, and I’ll make some test. If Articles is not maintained anymore, I guess I’ll have to make the switch sooner or later.

Is there a support for custom role ( Author, Editor, Contributor, just like wordpress ) ?


I am also worried about most of the plugins I have been using with modx.

Getresources last update is from 2013, articles from 2015, quip last updated is from 2012…. same thing from rampart archivist, tagLister….


Sooner or later we will all have to make the switch to php 7, and I don’t even know if these plugins are compatible...

MODX really is more of a framework than content management system and you just add in what you want. Out of the box no there is no support for author/editor/contributor etc but it's possible to add it in, or anything else, with a little mediation

Most of those plugins are pretty rock solid and don't need to be updated and from my experience they're all fine with PHP 7 (haven't tested rampart though).
