Here are some notes about my setup.
- I am attempting to upgrade from MODX Revolution 2.4.2 to 2.5.1.
- This is a hardened site, i.e. the core is located outside of the root. (However manager has not been renamed)
- I am working in a local environment. MAMP on Mac OSX.

I am using
Transmit to merge directories using
this technique. First I merge the "Core" directory (above the root), then I merge the remaining folders under the site root.
For any prompts to 'replace' or 'skip' files, I choose to
skip them per the documentation:
You don't want to indiscriminately overwrite directories: you want to insert the updated files into place inside the directories.
Afterwards, I run the setup, correct the core location when prompted, and run a normal upgrade. I receive success messages and no errors, however when I log into the manager the version is incorrect. I cannot tell if the upgrade succeeded or not.
NOTE: I noticed that the new MODX version number is located in core/docs/version.inc.php, which would not be moved over since it shares the filename with my existing install and would replace it. As stated above, I chose to 'skip' all files instead of overwrite them. A simple merge does not handle this.
Am I missing something? Are there some directories I should replace and others I should merge?
