Unfortunately this host's File Manager won't allow me to extract, I have to use something called Archive Gateway. So I'm using a combination of File Manager and Archive Gateway to try to do it. My usual host uses cPanel and it is so much easier to work with.

Ouch. I suppose changing hosts is not an option?

Hi Bob,thanks again for all your help. I was able to get the host to extract the file into the MODX core for me and was able to run the setup. Install went well, although I did get the following message at the end
            Important Note:

Your assets/ directory was not created at: /hermes/bosoraweb174/b2424/nf.toburn/public_html/toburn.ca/modx/assets/
You will need to create this directory and make it writable if you want to use Package Management or 3rd-Party Components.

Your assets/components/ directory was not created at: /hermes/bosoraweb174/b2424/nf.toburn/public_html/toburn.ca/modx/assets/components/
You will need to create this directory and make it writable if you want to use Package Management or 3rd-Party Components.

The website itself is now working properly again, although I still cannot login to the manager. I receive the following error when I try to login
Fatal error: Uncaught --> Smarty: Unable to load template file 'header.tpl' <-- thrown in /hermes/bosnaweb22a/b2424/nf.toburn/public_html/toburn.ca/modx/core/model/smarty/sysplugins/smarty_internal_template.php on line 219

Assuming that the file is there, it looks like a permissions or ownership problem with that file, its directory or a directory above it. The fact that the assets and assets/components directories were not created also suggest a permission problem there.

Ok, so how do I go about fixing that? Sorry this is all new for me.

From what I'm seeing in the FileManager header.tpl permissions is 644 (does that make sense?) and all the directories above it are 755.

For files and directories, 644/755 is usually correct. It could be a problem with the ownership of the directories.

I would tell your host about MODX having trouble creating those directories and give them the full path to that header.tpl file. They should be able to figure out what's happening.

Ok, so still not getting anywhere, this is the host's latest reply

                      Thank you for your patience.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you. I do not see the first 2 errors you have mentioned. It appears that the error was due to the incorrect home directory path /hermes/bosoraweb174/b2424/nf.toburn . The correct home directory path is /home/users/web/b2424/nf.toburn .

I have reset permission to 755 for folders and scripts and reset the ownership too but the error still persists. The file manager/templates/default/header.tpl does exists. You can access it at http://toburn.ca/modx/manager/templates/default/header.tpl . Please contact application provider regarding this issue.

At this point I'm thinking I'm going to have to have a chat with my client and see if we can switch hosts.
