  • A hardcopy manual which includes visuals (screenshots), which you can leave with them for reference can really help.
Indeed, an excellent idea. I remember almost 20 years ago when I worked for the purchasing department at the University of Miami setting up a fax-based document management system, the tech came with a notebook with step-by-step instructions, including screenshots, of exactly how to connect the new PC to the University mainframe network.

Cool. Thank you for the responses. I think I need to review my code also. I really think that I need to teach them html/css. Am I going to let them update the static pages that I made (about,services,etc..) and just allow them to just add news and gallery?..How about in graphics/images used, is tinyMCE responsive?
        • In terms of training, you may find this video interesting from a talk Graeme Leighfield did at the MODX Weekend a few months back: https://video.modmore.com/modx-weekend-2014/saturday/selling-modx-and-training-your-client/ It talks a bit about what you offer to your clients, and also about how to do the most effective training.

As for what you let them update: that is up to you and the client to decide. wink If they're not really tech-savvy and don't want to spend time on it, it could be easier to do some kind of contract where they can ask you for X hours per month/year to do content work. Another item on that list could be updates - it's important to keep the system up to date, so that could be part of an agreement.

Great resources! thank you sir. They asked me if I can train them, like they were 5 to 8 person. That's really draining.

Let me also mention NewsPublisher, which can be used to create and edit resources in the front end so users don't have to deal with the Manager. It lets you easily determine which Resource fields to show.

A new version is due out soon that's fully functional in MODX 2.3.2 and has many improvements.

              • Upvote for NewsPublisher! It's really good, worth sticking with the 2.2 branch until the updated version is out if you have use for it. I really want to get Redactor working with it. I have the exported .xml files for a policy template and a policy that is perfect for it, if anybody's interested.

Claro_santiago, have you seen ContentBlocks? It's not free but oh, is it nice for giving your clients control of their content layout without their needing HTML and CSS, templates and all of that! https://www.modmore.com/extras/contentblocks/

Mark, have you considered a front-end application of ContentBlocks? That would really be cool.

ContentBlocks is great! Haven't heard all those things. Is there any editor available for free downloads.
                  • ContentBlocks isn't an editor, it's a content layout wizard. It lets you use the content of the resource as a variable template, without a bunch of TVs and chunks and other elements. At first I really didn't like the idea, I've been using TVs and chunks for my headings and sidebars and footers for years, keeping the "content" field for the main text of the page. But it's really starting to grow on me.

It's too expensive, and not really helpful, for the small-site clients I usually work with, but one of these days I'll get somebody who can put it to use as well as pay for it. Your mention that you were thinking you need to teach your clients HTML and CSS made me think this could be perfect for them. And I think the price would be offset by the reduced need for your expensive time in teaching HTML and CSS. They could just add whatever kind of block they needed wherever they needed it, and all the block classes would already be styled appropriately in the CSS.
