So I have been working hard on a 100% new version of my Flexibility template, and it is ready for some initial testing.
(HUGE thanks to Bob Ray, Mark Hamstra, Jeroen Kenters and everybody else in the MODX community for all the help!)

    Main features include:

    • Updates without losing content
    • Removed the installation of default resources (this is not the 'MODX way')
    • Lexicon support
    • Articles support + templates
    • MIGX slider items
    • Gallery support + templates
    • Search
    • Google sitemap support and XML sitemap created at install
    • Version X added
    • Ace added
    • Replaced Tiny MCE with ckeditor
    • Client Config added (needs to be configured)
    • PHPthunbsUp added and used in the image gallery
    • Responsive lightbox
    • Added page templates with left and right sidebar
    • I need brave BETA testers for: Flexibility 4 - Fully functional MODX Revolution website.

Quickstart projects by creating a fully working MODX Revolution website with just one package! Flexibility includes navigation, search, blog, client setting, templates, template variables and more.

This package is meant to be used once to quick-start MODX website projects. It will install a lot of things and provide a nice responsive MODX website based on the Foundation 4 framework from ZURB.

    Help me out

If you test Flexibility 4 and find issues, have suggestions or want to help, please post it here on GitHub: https://github.com/DESIGNfromWITHIN/Flexibility4Issues/issues

    Manual install

    1. Install MODX Revolution on your website
    2. Download the package and upload the "flexibility4-0.0.1-alpha.transport.zip" file to "/core/packages/"
(You only need the transport.zip file, do not unzip it yourself)
    3. Install the "Flexibility 4" package: Go to "System" > "Package Management" > "Add New Package" > "Search Locally for Packages" > "Yes".
(to be sure clear your cache > "Site" > "Clear Cache")

    Adding and changing content

Simply add resources/pages as you need annd assign the template you want to use. After selecting a template you will find template specific options under the 'Template Variables' tab.

    Update instructions:

All sub-packages (like Wayfinder) are installed by Flexibility and you will be able to remove/update each sub-package under "System" > "Package Management".

You can update the package via package installer, Flexibility will NOT override excisiting Resources.

The download (use at your own risk!):

      • Interesting. I've been working on something similar but with IE8 css patches for the Top Menu and layout code, as well as the use of respond.js to help IE8 along. So far I've gotten 98% of Foundation 4 to work with IE8 (have to use jQuery instead of Zepto (which frankly isn't a bad thing) and the next and previous arrows in Orbit don't display properly in IE cool, particularly since I upgraded to Foundation 4.3.

This looks awesome. Do you have any advice for migrating an existing Modx site to Flexibility4? I have a Modx site based on Foundation 3 that I'd like to "upgrade."

            Thanks!
            • Well, that was interesting. I missed the point that this is supposed to be installed on an otherwise empty installation. The poor thing got all hung up trying to deal with the several other packages I had installed. Never could uninstall it; it kept trying to uninstall all the other packages I had installed.

              • Is it supposed to only have the package folders in the core/packages directory, no package.zip files for all of the packages it installs?

Indeed, the dev does state that
"this package is meant to be used once to quick-start MODX website projects,"
but it should probably state more clearly that it's not for use as an upgrade/retrofit and that installing this package will bork your site.

That said I'm sure there's a way to do an upgrade/migration. Just have to figure out how.

Yes it is, just have the flexibility4.transport.zip file in the packages folder and install it... That is all.
I is supposed to check for a lot of packages and only install them if needed...

Mmm, I hoped to not have issues like this anymore, will add a line to the site about this...
For my tests all works fine, the package installed all sub-packages nicely and even updates them if needed...

But still, the package should work with existing sites and simply add the template to a Revo install.
