Could it be the browser? Try another browser, and/or disable all the add on's and see if save works again. Re-enable one by one to find out which is causing the error.
Chrome has a nasty habit of picking random extras/add ons/whatever they're called and gorking MODX saves.
You can also try turning off compress_css and compress_js in case that's messing it up.

I tried 3 different browsers and disabled all extensions/add-ons but no difference. It's odd that Save does work normally where no TVs present but I can still create/save new Documents etc. What is it about a TV that would cause a problem? And even when Save does hang and I close the Manager and reopen the window, sometimes the changes were saved, sometimes not. It's all very tiresome.

I don't know if it's related or not, but try checking php.ini for the memory limit. If it's set at 64mb, try 128mb.
And/or - some deep searching to see what others have done to fix it. Within, and outside of the forum. I can't remember what else to try right now.

Memory limit is 128MB.
Thanks for your help. I'm off to investigate further. [rolls eyes]

Are there any Resource Group or Element Category Access ACL entries on the site, and if so, are the TV's in any affected resource groups or categories?

If I understand you correctly, no, there aren't.

Assuming that the compress_js and compress_css System Settings are turned off, it may just be a corrupted or missing file (i.e., bad install), especially if you used FTP to transfer the individual files.

I used the merge feature of my FTP app to update the remote files. But even if that is the problem, on my local install the exact same problem exists and for that I used the ditto Terminal command to update.

That's an odd one. Did you try clearing your browser cache and cookies? I've seen something similar from a leftover cookie.
