Massive memory usage

Don't you love it when tech. support answers your question by repeating it back to you? I particularly like it when the reply starts out with "I [understand | am sorry that] you are having a problem with ", and then quotes from your ticket, which of course doesn't prove that they understand anything at all other than how to cut and paste.

Reminds me of a good political Tweet I saw the other day along these lines:

Hearing [insert politician's name here] describing his plan was like hearing a doctor tell you, "we're going to cure your cancer by making you healthier."

Having exactly the same issues, hosted with eukhost. Suddenly happened this week (site hasn't been updated for about 3 weeks). They upped the PHP mem limit to 64M initially, but obviously not much help.

Wondered if it might be a modsec issue as they do have it set pretty strict, but they say no. Latest reply was "we suggest you optimise your script" (connectors/resources/index.php).

Any progress updates from yourself?

I managed to get it mostly resolved. I can now access the manager and edit pages but some of the backend still hates me.

I eventually managed to talk to someone in tech support who was actually helpful. He is called Vincent P.

His last reply to me was

I have now made the certain setting in the database and the changes are as follows:

1.Go into the DB using PhpMyAdmin and find the [table_prefix]_system_settings table (table_prefix is usually modx).
2.Find the rows with key "compress_js" and "compress_css" and set their value to 0 and save them.
3.Empty your core/cache/ directory.

And it will solve the issue.Kindly check and confirm the same.

This is strange tho as i had turned compressing of js and css off in the settings multiple times to test this as i found that the min.php script was not receiving any $_GET parameters which was insane.

It sounds like they changed the php configuration on their servers, could you post the phpinfo? I know MODX shouldn't use that much memory, regardless of Softaculous.

Here you go. I installed modx manually. I only used Softaculous as a test so tech support couldnt come back saying I had installed it incorrectly.

Setting compress js, css, concat js didn't really help (tried that before posting in fact). I can use the Manager but it's not consistant (presumably like yourself) - on first load it brings up the 500 error, then with a refresh it often works. connectors/resources/index.php still maxing out memory.

Hmm. Did you check your server access logs for the time frame around where this started? As well as the server error logs?

DNS Server change? It's a long-shot and would (AFAIK) only be an issue if Softaculous installs try to point back to Softaculous servers. Given that I'm not familiar with Softaculous, I really couldn't be sure if this is even worth researching.

If this is the case, this could be indicative of the problems you are experiencing, especially if it is causing a loop. It would also explain why neither you nor Softaculous cannot find the issue. And it might also explain why others might be experiencing the same issue.

However, in general, the problem would have been resolved by now...
