The problem with document groups is you would have to have one for every user in this scenario......................
Eeeeeeeeeeeek!
Is there a better way?
You would have one user and document group for each "sub-site", and then put the users in the appropriate user group. If each "sub-site" is managed by one user, well, how many "sub-sites" do you plan to have? That’s how many groups you’ll need.

Alot. Thats the problem. At least 50+.
Well, which is better? 50+ websites, or 50+ document/user groups? You have to have 50+ users anyway, if one user has access to one sub-site. Patience. Sometimes things just take sitting down and doing, like sorting and folding the socks after doing the family wash.
Hmmm. It would be possible to create a script to do it, though, it’s all in the database...although it would probably take as long to work the kinks out of the script as it would to sit down and do it all in Manager!

Laughs. But it would be confusing to see 50+ document groups!
Perhaps we should hack up the groups/user display to make working/updating/deleting more than one at a time more simple... how’s that sound?

If I did this using MODx’s current document groups/users method when creating a new document there would be 50+ document groups!
Maybe a plugin could handle this?
Maybe make it possible to actually write in the name of the document group you want, above the checkboxes. If there is no such group (typo, whatever) just pop up an error message (AJAX!).

Hmmmmm. That would still be quite complex. There must be a better way.
How would you envision making it simple and intuitive Mark? It’s most likely simply going to require some serious work to beat the current code base into submission I think.
