Wow. I made this long post and it didnt go through.

    This is my end goal:

I want clients to be able to register/login (Login - done) and create their own business profile (newspublisher - done).
Once they are done, once they publish it, it posts to a specific resource based on the tag they selected.

    Example:

    I have the following resources

    Directory Page
    Stay
    -Hotel/Motel
    -Vacation Rentals
    -RV/Camping

    Play
    -Moped Rentals
    -Beach
    -Sports

What I did, was create tags: hotel/motel, vacation rentals, rv/camping, moped rentals, beach, sports, etc. etc.

So when a client registers/logs in, they create their profile with their info based on various TV's like 'address,phone,slogan,logo,business_type <--tag , etc etc)

So if a client is a motel, when they publish it saves under the Stay/Hotel-Motel

And when I try to use the tags to display on the Directory page, it either shows ALL tags or none.

[[!getResourcesTag? &parents=`41` &tagKey=`business_type` &tpl=`dir_tag`]] 41 being the Stay resource. I have tried the Hotel/Motel resource too (which has client profiles underneath)
    Getreourcestag? shows none.

    [[!tagLister? &tv=`business_type` &target=`50`]]
taglister shows EVERY tag. Not just the ones associated with the profiles underneath.

I have also assigned tags to the sub directories too in an effort to simplify things to no avail.

The more that I think about it, there is probably an easier way to accomplish this maybe using something else other than taglister.

I am not sure I explained what I wanted to do well enough.

      2 things:

1-Once client selects the type of business they are, it publishes to a specific sub-resource (i.e. Stay/Vacation Rentals)

2-On the main directory page, display a list of sub directory resources containing the clients with that specific sub category (i.e. Play-Mopeds, Beach, Sports)Under those sub directories would be a list of all clients under each sub

After sitting here thinking (ouch), I think the main problem I want to solve is the client publishing to a specific area after selecting the proper business type. #2 isnt as big of a problem.

Would it work to assign the users to different user groups and use that to assign the parent of the page they publish in NewsPublisher?

I think one way to do that would be to store the ID of the parent resource for their business-type during the registration process. The 'internal_key' user field would be a good choice, since you're very unlikely to need it for anything else.

Then you could use that field to set the &parentid property in the NewsPublisher tag.

Mr. Ray, thank you for your assistance. Im not an elite modx'er but I will give it a try. are there other ways to accomplish the same thing with simply Login/Profile?

Allow me to jump in and try to help.

I believe BobRay is saying, when they sign up (Register, not Login), have them choose Stay or Play categories to join. Then you would have a hidden value in the profile (BobRay recommends 'internal_key' user field) so its easy to assign that profile to the right category.

Login isn't really involved here as it seems the users would not be changing categories, right? Login is just that, login to your profile, update your pictures and content.
