Been tinkering around with this now and i don't seem to get it to work. And i am not too familiar with nginx either which doesn't help.
I get to the setup screen and everything works fine until this screen :
http://modx.app/setup/index.php?action=install
After i click next the URL changes to
http://modx.app/setup/index.php?action=complete and i get a 500 modx error.
This indicates that there might be permission issues. So i verified that folders are 755 and files are 644. But can't get it to work.
Does any one have any advice?

Unfortunately i am out to get it to work with Homestead because it would be a cleaner setup of my local stuff. But thanks anyway.
