One thing that seems more difficult than it should be in MODX is the manager, primarily because EXJ JS is utilized. I've read through all the Revo Documentation for Ext JS and Mod Ext and it's very brief. When creating custom CMPs and extending the back end functionality, it seems like there are two use cases that would have documentation:
1. Creating a Grid view for your custom table
a. How to specify the columns to include, quick method to create the grid view
b. How to link clicking on a row to the form view of that row
2. Creating a form view to edit an individual row in the table
a. How to specify the fields and field types to render
b. How to define the layout / order of the fields
It seems like this should be covered somewhere. I can't imagine I'm the first person to encounter the steep learning curve and lack of information around Ext JS. When you go to the referenced Sencha documentation all you encounter is basically like an API explorer with no examples on how to construct it or usage.
Most of people like me hit the curve and fainted. Packed away in a stretcher!
Don't worry, there is news that ExtJS will be deleted in next major major version.

Harden your MODX site by
passwording your three main folders:
core, manager, connectors and renaming your
assets (thank me later!)
5 ways to sniff / hack your own sites; even with renamed/hidden folders, burst them all up, to see how secure you are not.
It might help you to look at the Example CMP installed with the Example project in MyComponent. It does a grid and you can perform operations on selected rows. It doesn't give you a form to edit a row, but it might get you started. It's a lot easier to follow than trying to look at the Manager JS.
BTW, there's nothing to stop you from using JQuery for your CMP. It's a lot easier to use, the documentation is better, and you can get answers to most questions about it with Google. In addition, you can use a current version instead of the very outdated version of ExtJS in MODX. You can still call the MODX processors (or modified copies of them) when you need to.
There is MIGX with MIGXdb, which helps to create CMPs without knowing much of EXT JS
Never had a usecase, where I couldn't build my CMPs with MIGXdb.
I started on a tutorial series last year that builds upon the Doodles Extra tutorial.
I do need to keep going with it though

Way back when all this was getting started I used ExtJS to make a grid for a client. I documented the process, and that's now archived here
