    Hi,
I installed ModX in newest version (2.4.3) on a new Server and want to setup a website. But now I am facing a weird problem with the resource panel.

The issue with the panel is: I have to click multiple times on the arrow until the resources list expand. But that alone is not the worst problem, I am not able to select a parent resource. When I try to click on the resource entry, I want to set as a parent, nothing happens. And unfortunately you can not just typ in an resource ID. The funny thing is, this affects only the resource panel. There is no problem with the element or the file panel.

I suggested there is an issue with the writing rights of the resource folder on the server, but even after changing the rights I have this problem.

I am looking forward to hear some clues. Thank You.

There is no "resource" folder. Resources are stored in the database. (well, except for static resources, but that's another matter altogether).

How did you install MODX? Where is it hosted? Check the Error Log (Manage -> Reports -> Error Log). Check your browser's console for Javascript errors.

There is another way to set the parent. You can click and drag the resource to the parent you want to have it under. You might try that.

Also, if you upgraded to the latest version, you should manually delete the files in the core/cache directory and clear your browser cache and cookies. A leftover cookie or cache file can cause weirdness in the Manager.

I think you are talking about the resource tree. Yeah the tree can be a little slow sometimes, its saving everything each time so you have to be patient with it.

For parent resources you can select the box to make it a container, or as BobRay said you can drag and drop.

            Thanks for your reply.

@nuan88: Yes, I ment the resource tree. But it is not only slow, it is not working at all. At least not as usual. I recognized that the checkbox for "container" is deselcted by default, in the previous version (2.4.3) it was always selected by default. This might also be a problem. What does this option do?

@BobRay: The drag & drop workaround works, thanks for that hint. But I think there is a real problem with resource tree, so I might not sleep tight as long as the problem is not solved smiley. It wasn't an upgrade of the ModX version, I made a clean new install on another server.

@sottwell: Well it was a new clean install, I installed it with install-routine (like usual). After the installation suceeded, I activated the .htaccess file for safety, and that's it.
The error-log says, there ar some problems with the following files: xpdocachemanager.class.php, xpdo.class.php. could one of these maybe cause the problem?

I meant, how did you get the files onto the server? Some methods are liable to cause corruption of the files. If you cannot open a new resource, go to its Settings tab, then click on the desired parent resource to set its Parent Resource, that sounds very much like a corrupted file somewhere on installation.

The host is important, as some hosts have problems with MODX because of the way the servers are configured. GoDaddy and HostGator are among common problem hosting providers. Some cloud-type hosting services also have problems. I have on a few occasions worked with clients whose hosting had limits on the number of requests that can be made in a given period of time, and the AJAX requests MODX uses to load the Manager page were in excess of that limit, so parts of the Manager interface, such as the Resource Tree, would not be fully loaded.

You cannot right-click on a resource, choose Create, then Document and create a child document? Does clicking on a document in the Resource Tree open it for editing?

By the way, dragging a resource onto another to make it a child does not set the Container checkbox of the parent. There was a good deal of discussion on this issue, and now there is a System Setting to control this behavior in some cases, but it still doesn't automatically set the is_folder on drag-and-drop. https://github.com/modxcms/revolution/issues/9635 [ed. note: sottwell last edited this post 10 years, 6 months ago.]

I uploaded the files via ftp (cyberduck) onto the server. The server is a single-host apache web server, ordered by my customer. The provider is called HostNet (www.hostnet.de), it's a german provider. When I managed to open the tree (like I wrote, I have to click multiple times on the "open" arrow), I can create, edit, delete and everything like usual. Except the multiple-clicking-bug, the only thing that doesn't work is to choose a parent-element directly from the tree. I just checked, I have to drag and drop it, this works. Maybe the server is too slow for the "open the tree" request?

By the way: A parent element has to be a container, did I get that right? [ed. note: maxcalibur last edited this post 10 years, 6 months ago.]

Uploading the files like that can lead to getting one or more files corrupted during upload, especially in the case of all of those little javascript files in the manager. It is always recommended to upload the zip archive, and unzip it and move the files into place on the server. The install.php script here takes care of all of that for you. https://github.com/sottwell/installer

A parent element is usually also a container, yes. There are some technical quibbles over it, but in general a 'container' resource has children, and a resource that has children should be a 'container'. It's a matter of a field in the database, "isfolder". MODX internally has several internal methods for determining if a resource is a parent, so having that "isfolder" field set to 0 or 1 doesn't necessarily mean that a given MODX process will use it. Menu snippets usually do, though.

I think this is still accurate, but I haven't tested it in a while.

Okay, I think I now understood where the error comes from. Thank you both for your great support.
