Hi,
I’ve searched around and can’t seem to find anything about installing modx on to a subdomain.
Can this be done with out effect what on the main domian (not a modx install)
What i want to do is upload a working version of a site on a subdomain before launching it on the main domain.
I’ve uploaded all the files and followed the steps via subdomain.mydomain/install
All works ok but just after the step that installs all the snippets ect i get the page "Install results" which is just after the "Pre-install validation" page i get confirmation that every thing is ok/installed. But i get no buttons or anything to continue to next page. The last on the list that is confirmed as being installed is "WebSignup: Installed" But nothing after that. If i recall normally there is a tick box to remove the install folder and a button.
Any ideas, do i need to change the .htacess file or anything.
Thanks
Ben
Have you tried logging into subdomain.mydomain/manager/ to see if your installation was successful? I don’t think there’s anything particularly special about installing MODx into a subdomain. Usually a subdomain points to a specific subfolder in your web directory, and the process is the same as for installing into a subdirectory without a subdomain (I’ve only done this once, but it was as simple as that when I did it).
MODx is self-contained. It involves only the files in the subdomain and the information in the MODx database so it won’t have any effect on a site at the main domain as long as the MODx .htaccess file is in the subdomain folder. MODx won’t effect anything in the main domain at all and, as long as you don’t make any changes in the main domain directories (and there’s no reason to), the main site will be unaffected.
Thanks for the replies, not sure what the problem was so i deleted all the the files and data base and re uploaded fresh copies of the files and everything worked perfect which is go.
While i’m on this topic should it be easy enough to move the files to the main domain. Do i just need to move all files to the top level and change the relevant stuff within manager.
Thanks
Ben
Pretty much the same guidelines apply for moving the site elsewhere as for your previous question.
ok cool, thanks for the help!
