In some cases they wouldn't be applied anyway, since the permissions are hard-coded in at least a few internal functions.

Right, I think there are still some examples in my own extras. wink

That said, those System Settings should really be set during Setup, and all code should use them.

I think there are also some extras that ignore the MODX character set when creating DB tables, so the tables end up with the swell Latin1 Swedish MySQL defaults if the user hasn't reset them in PhpMyAdmin.

I had projects with wired file/folder permissions, so I think it's a good idea to use the MODX API to create folders and files, so MODX can automatically do it's thing with applying permissions.

This worked for me in the past:

$path = MODX_BASE_PATH.'write-tree-test/';
$modx->cacheManager->writeTree($path);
