    Hey guys!

Okay I’m totally new to CMS and modx, did the plunge a few days ago.
So far i have only had time to make my template, and it works perfectly.

Now, i want to have a news section on my front page, something similar to this perhaps: "http://modxcms.com/blog.html", where my clients (a house owner association) can post their various news. The thing is i haven’t been able to obtain a total beginner guide for this.

What i have found so far:
    http://modxcms.com/blog-tutorial.html
    http://wiki.modxcms.com/index.php/Creating_a_Blog_like_in_the_Default_Content#Required_Snippets

Tryed the two guides but with no luck.. i need more details; "go here - write this" type of thing.

So basically my question is: Is there a detailed guide for making news blogs?

Thank you for your patience. smiley

AFAIK, The Wiki is about as detailed as it gets on this. You should know that you can see the installed and working version of what’s described in the Wiki by selecting the option to install the example website during the MODx install.

If you want to do it yourself, though, people here can probably help you but you’ll need to tell us what you tried and what the results were. You might have been just a tiny syntax error away from success.

It might help you to have an overview. Basically, what you want is to have each news item be a different document in MODx. You create the documents in the Manager (putting them all under a single parent folder) and display them with the Ditto snippet.

To get started doing it yourself, skip jot and newspublisher for now and just create the news items manually and show them with Ditto:

Create the parent folder by selecting "new document" in the Modx Manager. Fill in the fields (call it "blog") and make sure the "container" checkbox on the "page settings" tab is checked. Save it.

Your new "blog" document should show up in the document tree at the left of the screen. To add your news articles, right-click on the "blog" document and select "create document here."

      Create several news articles.

Now it’s time to use the Ditto snippet (as shown in the tutorial you looked at) to display the documents in blog form. See the tutorial on the Wiki for that or just try is a very simple Ditto call by putting this on the page where you want to show the posts:

      [[Ditto? &startID=`2` ]]

(change 2 to the document ID of your "blog" container document -- shown in parentheses in the document tree at the left of the screen)

You should seem some version of your news items.

See the site in my sig for more info on how MODx works.

It doesn’t look all that far off.

It looks like you have two ditto calls on the same page, though, which your shouldn’t need.

What is the ditto call you’re using in the document?

Do the documents blog3 and entrydoc have any content? If not, put some in and see if it shows up.
