    Hi,

I’m having difficulty in moving my modx site to a live server.
It’s currently set up on a testing server.
Here’s what i’ve done so far:
    1. copied the sql with dropTables/createTables and imported to new database. The new database has a different name by the way as does the username and password...do i need to make alterations to any files?
    2. copied the assets, manager, .htaccess, index.php and index-ajax.php files to the new server.
    3. updated the config.php file in mananger/includes with new server info.

I’ve got the home page up but when i click on another page i get a ’Not Found’ page.

    Thanks for any help

    J

Make sure to clear the cache so you don’t have any old cache files with the menus showing the old URLs.

Upload the original install folder and run the installer in upgrade mode.

        Hi,

        Thanks for the reply.

The home page displays ok when i actually type in www.myWebsite.com/index.php, but none of the other pages display which make me think there’s a path issue somewhere.
I haven;t actually run the install, infact i didn’t even copy it across...would this be the best way to do things normally?

        Thanks for your help

Yes, it’s always good to run the installer in upgrade mode to make sure the site cache file is refreshed.

You also need to check your paths in the Configuration, both in the Interface and Features tab and the File Manager tab, although this has nothing to do with the URLs on the front-end but it will cause problems in the Manager if they aren’t set correctly.

You also may need to make changes to your .htaccess file, especially if your development server was a subdirectory and your production server is in the root.

            thanks for the quick reply.
I’ve changed all configuration paths so that should be ok.
The files are in the root too so no changes to the .htacces files needed.
One weird thing i’ve noticed is that every time i upload the .htaccess files they disappear from the server when i refresh the files...now this doesn’t happen on my server so i wonder if it could be the way the new server is set up?

have you heard of this happening before?

It depends on your FTP client settings. Files starting with . are supposed to be hidden, and require special configurations for them to show.
