It worked after I DROPPED all the tables in the default install database.

I’m trying to migrate a site from one server to another, and I have to say, the ’instructions’ on moving servers, are EXTREMELY LAX, esp. to someone like me who knows practically nothing about MySQL!
This is support and documentation for MODx, not MySQL. There are tons of tutorials on the Internet for HTML, CSS, PHP, and MySQL. If a person has no knowledge of any of these, he will have serious problems trying to be a web developer and site administrator. It’s like a person with no training trying to repair and maintain his computer monitor. Well, except that it won’t kill you if you accidentally touch the wrong part...
Sorry, Susan, you’re absolutely right. I was just frustrated by my own lack of knowledge. No offense to Doc Team intended!
The ’problem’ -- to MODx’s credit - is that I’ve managed to build a rather sophisticated site without knowing ANYTHING about MySQL!
When I have some time ... I’ll add some ’newb’ notes to the wiki...

As a completely self-taught "techno-geek-girl", I can certainly empathize with the frustration! But keep it up, in 15 years you, too can have a fairly decent practical knowledge of many aspects of programming and administration. But I would strongly recommend some formal courses (not the online crap; they don’t even provide a decent looking certificate; yes, O’Reilly Learning Lab, I mean you... wasting thousands of dollars for what can be learned just as easily with half a dozen good free online tutorials!) to get the theory; I’m suffering badly from that lack in trying to get a grip on MODx 2.0-also-known-as-Revolution.
