How do I setup a subscribe by email for Articles?
I know I would use Subscribe for people to opt in or signup, but how do I trigger emails to those that signup when a new article is published? If I'm reading correctly, Notify is a manual process.
How do we make this automatic?
Yes, Notify is manual. You can create a plugin attached to OnDocFormSave that sends an email when the article is saved, but only if it's new. This will only happen once. The tricky part is deciding which users get notified or which articles.
If you use Subscribe to let users manager their user groups and preferences, you could consult its data to see who gets what.
BTW, it might be possible to use Notify's methods from within the plugin -- I've never looked to see if it would be possible. If it is, that would give you the benefit of using the Notify Tpls, URL shortening, user preferences, and Mandrill (which is a huge advantage).

Hmmm, bummer. I wouldn't know how to begin to create a custom plugin like this.
I can use feedburner. It's just kind of clunky compared the the many choices a Word Press Blog would have for this. I hoping for something more integrated/elegant.
Thanks.
I may have made it sound more complicated than it is. If you want to send an email to all subscribers or to all members of a user group, it's fairly simple to have a Tpl chunk with the skeleton of the email, and a few lines of code in the plugin to fill in the data and send the emails when a new resource gets saved.
The advantage of adding Mandrill is that Mandrill, not your server, does all the emailing, but if there aren't that many recipients it's not a big deal.
