Certainly it's possible. One way would be to add a button to the output tpl that triggers an AJAX call to a processor that does something like
$fields = array(
'published' => 1
)
$modx->runProcessor('resource/update', $fields);
Of course, that will complicate your widget, you'd almost have to make it a "proper" widget with a namespace and code in core/components/<widgetname>/ in order to have a secure place to store your update code.
I would create a MIGXdb - CMP, which lists all that resources and add a publish-columnbutton to one of the grid-columns.
Then link from dashboard to that CMP.
