    Hi

I have been playing with DJamoers multi-site hack and also installing two Modx sites onto one database (to share users really). I get the same proble with both.

If I assign an admin to a subsite then they get to see everything that’s on all sites and the root site.

Is there a way to hide parts of the document tree from non allowed admins?

Ok maybe I am going stupid here but how can a Make a public document on the front end private in the manager so that only allowed managers can see it in the document tree?

I can see on every page that there are these settings:

      Web access: Public
      Manager access: Public

which gives me to think that web access and manager access can be set separately. How? Yes, the web user and mamager document groups are separate but if a doc is public its public. What am I missing here?

Document groups are shared. Manger user groups and web user groups are separate; the same document group can be conntected with either or both.

A document group serves no purpose until it’s connected to a user group. If it’s connected to a web user group, then only web users logged in and belonging to that web user group can see it. If it’s connected to a manager user group, then only manager users logged in and belonging to that group can see it.

I see that now. As soon as you as you apply any permission in the manager it becomes private. My problem still remains though...

I dont want documents without appropriate permission to be visible to managers not in specific groups. So in my configuration for instance I want Canterbury (Christchurch NZ) users to only be able to see the Canterbury folder or subdocuments and not the entire countries’ worth. They must not even know they exist.

As some of the entire countries’ worth are public, this presents a further problem. They will be public on the manager too.

I therefore cannot see how I can get away without a second layer of permissions. Manager Access Permissions. Alternatively declare that anyone not a top level admin cannot see anything other than that for which they have permission (but then how do I assign that) . This is tricky....roll on V2.

Tried the alpha3 to upgrade me site today but of course it wrecked it. This really is all about multi site operation.

Any document that does not belong to a document group will be publicly visible. And document belonging to a document group that is not assigned to a manager user group will be visible to all manager users. To hide a document, it must belong to a document group that is connected to a manger user group.

The question is then, how do I assign a document to a manager user group whilst making it visible to everyone on the web side? It does not seem to work that way round..

For the sake of it I have added one page "Auckland" to the "Auckland Register" document group and then assigned that to "Auckland Manager" in the manager user/doc link. It is marked as web and manager private.

In another browser (FF) logged in as "Canterbury Admin" which is assigned to "Canterbury Manager" manager user group I opened the manager and I can see Auckland - but I CANT edit it.

The snag is that I dont want to be able to see Auckland, never mind edit it. Is there a hack to the tree creation that would stop this?
