My site runs on 'MODx Revolution 2.0.3-pl' and PHP Version 5.2.17
seeing as this version of PHP is no longer supported, 1and1 are charging a monthly fee for extended support... I've tried switching to the version suggested by 1and1 (version 5.5) - but this gave me errors around the preg_replace function as it is deprecated in the later versions of PHP (I'm sure there may be other issues too but this one was clear to see in logs and on the Modx Manager) - I've switched back to 5.2.17 for now so I can plan the next steps
In short, I think it is about time I upgraded to the latest version of modx revo... Having not done this before I was hoping the modx community could give me an idea of how painful / time consuming this would be... Also do I need to upgrade via other versions or can I go directly from 2.0.3 to the latest version?
My site uses the following packages: I am hoping these are still available as my site relies heavily on them:
- breadcrumbs
- captcha
- formit
- gallery
- getresourcefield
- getresources
- simplesearch
- tinymce
- ultimateparent
Please let me know if more information is required to advise me further on this situation
Thanks in advance

Yes, all of those extras are still in common use.
It is recommended to make incremental upgrades in a case such as yours. Take it 5 or so versions at a time.
BobRay's UpgradeMODX is the best way to handle upgrades, but you'll need to change the System Settings for the version for it to upgrade to.
I think you'll also have to use the snippet (rather than the widget) to get the form for at least the first upgrade. I don't think 2.0.3 supports widgets.
