Answered Can't Install (to upgrade) - Page downloads instead of opening?!

Hi,

Am trying to rescue an old site for an old client. Their hosting company migrated server and whole site went down.

I've got a copy of all site files, and managed to get their hosters to send me a DB backup.
It's an old 0.9.6 (or something) site.
I've setup space on my server, copied over backed-up files, built a new database and imported the backup. I downloaded latest evo and ftp'ed over the install folder, and go to load up the website/install page...

..but it just downloads in the browser instead of opening?
happens in all browsers. nothing obvious I can see in the .htaccess.
I do have the manager open and working, but can't load any site pages in the browser

PHP Version 5.5.30
MySQL Version 5.5.40-36.1-log]

I've no way of accessing the site to upgrade modx.
Anyone come across this issue, or know how to resolve it?

no.. nothing like that. (had googled around before posting and saw that come up in wordpress forums, so I checked)

Did you also upload all the other files also ?

I would also try re uploading all the files again as FTP can sometimes upload corrupt files

uploaded everything that came in the evo download.
will give it another go now though

nope... still happening after a re-upload.

Will probably start again - delete all files from server, delete db and re-upload the works.


Out of interest, can anyone recommend the best way of rebuilding and upgrading?
ie..
upload all the old files and import the old database, THEN try to upgrade,
or
get a new fresh install up and running, then try to import the old content?

Delete all files from your server that are MODX relevant

Drop the complete database

Upload the latest evo zip file as is - do not unpack beforehand and then upload, that can cause problems

Unpack the zip file directly on the server

Modify the config.inc.php for your DB

Load your DB backup into your new DB

Start the update

In theory - it should work
