One of the problems we as Modx have is the difficulty of grabbing just the code you need. People fall into common pitfalls and have trouble to get out, due to the lack of fun things like comprehensive step by step guides and tutorials (which are hard as heck, we all know this I think). Yet the user pool is deep and the group knowledge is there, its just hard to get thine hands on. Of course developers like to push boundaries, but it should become very easy to establish a basic site with a lot of power going in different directions.
I must admit I have come to dislike sites like reddit, in which voting becomes sort of a race to the bottom. Still, why not a website online to post bits of code and, more importantly, with the ability to allow users to 'upvote' (perhaps no ability to go the other way) bits of code that are particularly useful? Susan's got her cookbook, which is certainly a step in the right direction, and this could be another one, a public one.
We know that users will feed back when they use something successfully, not at a 1:1 ratio but still there is support there, as long as it isn't monetary
This could allow the wisdom of the crowd to easily allow the prime bits of code, the stuff that either helps so many people a little, or a smaller group a lot, to float to the top. If the site internal search functions are strong, or tagging or another way of organizing info is/are used, then it could really help a lot of people and grow quickly. The concept might even be able to be used on a site like stackoverflow with just some nudging of the user base.
I as a supporter of others could use another site to post my bits of code, and could push users to those sites when I am providing support. For me personally, most of my code is in a section, so its sort of easy to find, but a voting function allows us to see trends and needs of the user base better and also gives us more info in other ways.
