    Hi everybody,

I’m seeking for some help. I have to migrate a modx website to a new provider. Everything worked perfectly, except the special characters (arrgh)
The site was build on a 0.95 release, installed on a SQL 4 version. Now I have moved to new DBs on SQL5. I’ve made an export from the old DB and installed it on the new one. Problem : I cant get the special characters to appear correctly on my website now (they all been transformed to ?s).

I’ve noticed two "strange"(?) things :
    1) The collation is latin1_swedish (hum my website is in german and french.....) as I was sure I were in UTF8 huh
    2) Thru phpMyAdmin, every spec chars are correctly displayed.... but not on the website

Not sure to ask this question at the right place. I’m a novice in SQL and DBs. But I would be reaaaally thankfull if somebody could give my a hand
    Thx

    Alex

I’m not an expert here either, but I’d be curious to know if the data in your database is stored correctly. In other words, can we isolate this problem as a MySQL problem or a MODx problem. If you are not seeing errors in the MODx interface, that would lead me to believe that the problem is with how the database is storing your old data.

When you create a table in MySQL, you can specify the character type... have a look at
      http://www.phpwact.org/php/i18n/utf-8/mysql

If you can get access to a MySQL command line, it might show some interesting results if you were able to look at "SHOW CREATE TABLE your_table_name" and compare the new version of the table to the old... often there’s something in there for language or encoding.

If it is a MODx issue... I’m not sure where I’d begin looking...

Great! Glad that helped. What exactly did you change? Did you change the my.cnf file?
