Until now for blogs etc. I've always had a TV for the blog post thumbnail to use on the main page when listing posts. I just use getResources to sort it out. I just started to redo my old blog and was thinking if it would be possible to get an image (ideally the first image) from the actual post content to make things a bit more simple? I'm trying to figure out how to do it with getResources but my brain turns into a knot. Could getResources and a custom output filter work here or is there a more simple solution?

You are going to have to have a snippet to parse the resource content and extract the first img element. I'm afraid that I would be of no help in actually doing it, though.
