    Hello to all;
    It's my first letter here, just registered.
    I've got a question about the manual. I plan to install the modx rev. 2.4.2, but I haven't understood one sentence in the manual clearly. It is said there: "Copy or move all the files within the new extracted MODX version directory to the directory that you wish to install MODX into.".
    The question is simple: the zip-file with the engine contains a folder named "modx-2.4.2-pl", so should I copy to the root site directory the folder itself or its contents only? I suppose it's the latter, am I right?

      The contents. You will need several directories (assets, connectors, core, manager) and a few files (config.core.php, index.php, ht.access) in the installation root.

      It is the "index.php" file that is used for actually running MODX. All of the other .php scripts are included by that file as needed. The config.core.php file tells the index.php script where the MODX core files are located, and what its main configuration file is named. This is necessary because the entire core directory can be moved and/or renamed for security, and the main configuration file can be renamed also for security.

        The easiest way to install is to use the install.php script; put it where you want to install MODX and it will download and unzip everything in place for you.

          To answer your original question: yes, just the contents. Susan's method is excellent, but if for some reason you can't use it, you can do what's described here: http://bobsguides.com/modx-upgrade-faq.html (just the part about transferring the files).

          Whatever you do, DO NOT transfer the files individually with FTP. That often results in missing or corrupted files.

            Thank you all. The contents, OK. As I thought, just wanted to be sure, I'm not a professional in sitebuilding. I will follow the manual step by step. For me it's better not to use any other methods so as not to be misled.
