Hello. I’m new to modx; I am newbie.
    Ok, that’s my introduction.

My problem is this: When I activate friendly urls in the backend configuration, the [*pagetitle*] in my templates always defaults to my startpage title. However, once I turn it off, the problem disappears: [*pagetitle*] renders properly.

I’ve tweaked the friendly url options and turned off everything except the ’Use friendly URLs’ field, but the problem still remains. My default htaccess file file had been stripped to the bare minimum for friendly url use, but this did not seem to change anything significant.

The site info I’m going to provide will be overkill, but I think it’s ok.

    Site info:

    Apache version: 2.2.8 (Unix)
    PHP version: 5.2.5
    MySQL version: 5.0.51a-community
    Architecture: i686
    Operating system: Linux
    Kernel version: 2.6.9-55.0.2.ELsmp

    MODx version: 0.9.6.1p2
    Version codename: rev 3281

    PHP configure commands:
    ./configure’ ’--enable-bcmath’ ’--enable-calendar’ ’--enable-discard-path’ ’--enable-ftp’ ’--enable-gd-native-ttf’ ’--enable-libxml’ ’--enable-magic-quotes’ ’--enable-mbstring’ ’--enable-pdo=shared’ ’--enable-sockets’ ’--prefix=/usr’ ’--with-curl=/opt/curlssl/’ ’--with-freetype-dir=/usr’ ’--with-gd’ ’--with-gettext’ ’--with-imap=/opt/php_with_imap_client/’ ’--with-imap-ssl=/usr’ ’--with-jpeg-dir=/usr’ ’--with-kerberos’ ’--with-libxml-dir=/opt/xml2/’ ’--with-mcrypt=/opt/libmcrypt/’ ’--with-mhash=/opt/mhash/’ ’--with-mysql’ ’--with-mysqli’ ’--with-openssl=/usr’ ’--with-openssl-dir=/usr’ ’--with-pdo-mysql=shared’ ’--with-pdo-sqlite=shared’ ’--with-png-dir=/usr’ ’--with-pspell’ ’--with-sqlite=shared’ ’--with-ttf’ ’--with-xpm-dir=/usr/X11R6’ ’--with-zlib’ ’--with-zlib-dir=/usr’

I don’t have that much time to learn more about modx at the moment, so... lend me a helping hand. smiley

The alias field is the one that is related to the friendly URLs. The pagetitle corresponds to the name that the document is identified as in the document tree (modx manager). It is also often used for menu tiles (but there is an independent field for this if needed). The longtitle is normally used in the title meta tag (title bar in the browser) as well as to add a more descriptive title on the page if you want.

This link has a list of all the available document specific variables: http://www.modxcms.com/document-tvs.html
There is also a nice beginner’s guide in the wiki that helps understand how to use a few of the document variables: http://wiki.modxcms.com/index.php/Beginner%27s_Guide_to_MODx
