This method was used to transfer a website with MODx 2.4.0 to a newly installed MODx 2.4.2. So it was just a little difference in MODx versions. There's no guarantee that a bigger generation gap will work.

    1. Clear Cache and Flush All Sessions from your MODx Control Panel.
    2. Login into your hosting account.
    3. Make Home Directory backup. You will download a file like backup****.tag.gz
    4. Export your database using phpMyAdmin. You will download a file like you_database_name.sql
    5. Now login into your new hosting control panel.
    6. If your hosting has Softaculous tool, go there find MODx and do new installation.
    7. Go to your new hosting phpMyAdmin and import previously downloaded dump of your database you_database_name.sql
    8. Now you will be able to login into the MODx control panel using you previous credentials (the ones you used at you old hosting).
    9. Now to enable the frontend of your website you need enable the packages you installed on your MODx.
    10. There are two ways to do it.
    11. Upload the content of the core/components and core/packages folders from your old site backup.
    12. Alternatively you can go to your MODx Package Management (Extras-->Installer) and delete and install again all the packages you use in your project.

Note: there's a much faster and easier way to transfer you Modx-powered site to a new hosting. If both hostings the old and the new ones use cPanel you can just ask your new hosting support to transfer the entire cPanel account. You just need to give them your old hosting credentials and they will do it in 5 mins. That's what I did transferring my website to a new hosting. It's easy, isn't it?

You can also consider using the official MODx transferring method described here: https://rtfm.modx.com/revolution/2.x/administering-your-site/moving-your-site-to-a-new-server
