Answered Maintain code outside of Modx database?

    Is there any value to maintaining your elements outside of the Modx database, in folders and files? Is there a way to easily accomplish this? I find the Modx element navigation clunky and I do not like editing code inside the Modx window. I am using Ace as a rich text editor but it's still not as good as something like Coda or Sublime Text.

    Is anyone doing this? I worry uploading the code to the database and keeping it in synch with the code in the files.

      That's what the "is static" checkbox is for. All elements can be static elements and you can put the files wherever you like. If you open the element, the file's contents will be displayed in the editing field.

          That's great to know. Is there a way to set a custom basepath or document root?

          Also, what are your thoughts on StaticSaver? It looks like a labour saver but it only has 560 downloads.

            Yes, static elements respect Media Sources.

            As far as StaticSaver, I've never used it, so I have no thoughts on it. But then I'm perfectly happy with using MODX and Ace as my IDE.
