    Hi folks,

Fairly new to MODX, enjoying it so far but have hit a bit of a brick wall. I've been working on a clients website making amendments etc which has been fine, now however it's come the time that the client wants to move the website to our hosting platform. I've never migrated a MODX website before, so I've Googled it to try and find a guide. I very much a visual person, so this one seemed to fit the bill (plus it seemed pretty easy): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uEjfrANQYyU

So I've followed the instructions on it and grabbed the MySQL database, stuck it on the new server, uploaded the original zipped files to the new server unzipped them and edited the config files to match the new location of the website files (I've even updated the database name and password as it's now different).

However when I go to the new site (it's on a temp url) I get a Error 503 Site temporarily unavailable. I've looked on the forums for that and have come across various threads of what it could be, but no avail.

Can someone maybe suggest what I'm doing wrong?

    Cheers all smiley

    Karl

      Hi Karl,

Have you tried emptying the core/cache folder on the new server? Try renaming .htaccess to ht.access temporarily to make sure there's nothing odd happening there. Can you login to the manager? Is there anything in the MODX error log (you can find that under core/cache/logs/ if the manager doesn't work either)? Have you tried running the setup again?

        Hi Mark,

Thanks for the prompt reply smiley

I can't access manager or setup, keeps telling me it can't find the file on the server.

Is there another way that I can install a clean version of MODX, then install the old site over the top?

Have you tried manually deleting the core/cache folder through FTP?

Can you create and view a test php file to make sure it's not a problem beyond MODX?

              Have you tried this: https://github.com/craftsmancoding/modx_utils/blob/master/modx_ready.php

Assuming the version of MODX you are trying to migrate is 2.3 or greater I would recommend uploading the latest version of MODX: http://modx.com/download/ to your new host, unzipping it into the base URL for your MODX install, copying the contents from the unzipped folder into your base dir, and then visiting http://yoursite.com/setup

If the setup detects a previous MODX install it will default to the "upgrade" option. I would try that and see what happens.
